About Me

My name is Kerby Thompson and I am currently teaching general and vocal music here in Highland, WI.
Before this, I was a Kindergarten through fourth-grade general/vocal music teacher near St. Louis, Missouri. (www.dunklin.k12.mo.us) I began teaching in Wisconsin (www.richland.k12.wi.us) where I was born, attended high school, farmed, ran my own cleaning service, earned my BA degree and was a pastor.    My family and I moved to Medford, Oregon in 2007 where I was the music director for the Apostolic Faith Church.  (www.apostolicfaith.org)  The church has an orchestra, choir, and various soloists and ensembles.  On April 7th, 2008 I completed my Master of Arts Degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology (MATLT) at Ashford University.  (www.ashford.edu)

I use technology extensively in my music classes.  Music is composed and arranged using Finale (MakeMusic) and projected for keyboard, recorder, singing, and Orff pieces. I use Music K-8 subscriptions and Quaver Music curriculum which offer excellent performances of student pieces, accompaniment tracks, printed music, PowerPoint files, movie clips, and musicals for performance.  I often create musical DVDs using various curricular pieces by videotaping the students in the K-5 classes singing and playing classroom instruments.

My wife Shannon and I have five beautiful children, including one adopted child and one set of twins.
